- Bob Norman, an 8th grader at St. Mary's School, won the geography bee as part of the 2nd year of the national competition sponsored by the National Geographic Society.

- Students from St. Mary's School were featured on TV on the "News Six" program on WBGU-TV, PBS, Bowling Green. Videotaping was done during the month by
WBGU-TV and was featured on three separate programs. The 6th grade class of St. Mary's helped produce the program and got to travel to the TV station.

The 87th Annual NCEA Convention was held in Toronto - Sister Patricia Meyer was chosen to receive a Distinguished Principal Award. She was one of 12 recipients chosen from 12 geographic regions by the Department of Elementary Schools of the National Catholic Educational Association.

- As part of a larger Clyde-Green Springs community project called Operation Cookie, the St. Mary's students helped realize the project goal of sending 12,000 cookies to military personnel stationed in Saudi Arabia.

A special article in the Catholic Chronicle featured teacher Miss Sharon Kinnear and discussed how she spends her summers. During the summer, Miss Kinnear held a 2-week computer literacy and educational game session for students in the 6th, 7th and 8th grades.

- April, 1992 - A special article appeared in the local newspaper, "Kay Dick Has The Answers" in the our Neighbor section. The article focused on all that Kay does both at St. Mary's School as the secretary for many years and within the community of Clyde in various committees and organizations. Kay was quoted that children come first and that she loves all the kids as she loves her own.

The 30th graduation from St. Mary's School was held in which 28
eighth graders received diplomas. One student, Mark Dirlam, celebrated graduation with his father, Ralph Dirlam, who was in St. Mary's very first graduation class 30 years ago!

- The first class of D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) assembled. The program, sponsored locally by the Clyde Police Department and instructed by Officer Gary Enderle, helps 6th grade students in Clyde and St. Mary's Schools develop self-confidence and the ability to withstand peer pressure.

- Sr. Rita Rogier began new duties at St. Mary's School, assuming the position of Principal, recently vacated by Sr. Patricia Ann. Sr. Rita was born and
raised in Fostoria and graduated from New Riegel High School. She entered the Sisters of the Precious Blood in 1962. She earned her
undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton and her Master's Degree from Aquina College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

- St. Mary's FIRST EVER Toy Bowl Crown was won by the football team. The Knights, champions of the Tri-Deanery League with a score of 12-0. The team, as well as other fall sports teams, were honored at the annual awards program.

- The Annual Fall Sports Awards program was held in the school hall at 7:00 p.m. Leading the awards was St. Mary's first ever Toy Bowl win in football.

- Clyde St. Mary's Knights Football team won the Diocesan Toy Bowl and finished the season with a perfect 8-0 record. The team has lost only once in 16 games over two seasons.

- The Boys CYO 7/8th grade basketball team, coached by Ron Meade, finished the season with a 10-2 record. The 6th grade girls finished 13-1 and won the Tri-Deanery championship. Coaches were Joe Beier and Bill Nieset. The 5th grade girls, coached by Dennis Albrinck, finsihed with a 12-1 record and won the Tri-Deanery crown.

St. Mary's Cadet boys and Junior girls CYO track teams took 1st place honors at the annual Toledo Diocese Track Meet which featured 28 schools. The Junior boys took 2nd place. The teams were coached by Ben Davis and Laura McBroom.

There was a graduation Mass at St. Mary's for 22 eighth grade students. Fr. George Losiewicz awarded diplomas.

- The first joint effort between Sandusky County Catholic schools dinner/auction was a huge success. Preliminary figures announced indicated more than $60,000 was raised.

- St. Mary's CYO 6th grade girls basketball team finished the season 25-1. Team members were: Sarah Musser, Rachel Crooks, Rachel Dick, Carla Albrinck, Molly Halm, Jennifer Ritchey, Ashley Lopez, Michelle Goehring, and Kim Murray. They were coached by Dennis Albrinck, who was also Clyde's City Manager.

- David Halm, St. Mary's 7th grader, placed 5th of 100 students in the Ohio Geography Bee. This was David's 3rd appearance in the state contest.

Theresa Gierhart was selected as May Queen and Jason Cook was selected as Crown Bearer. Both were 8th graders.

Inez Kerlin resigned after many years as St. Mary's School clerk. Karen Meyer was hired to fulfill the duties as Auxiliary Services Clerk.

- St. Mary's 8th grade Volleyball team were the champions of the Toledo Diocese with a 21-1 record. They were coached by Marilyn Harnden and Jan Crooks. The football team was runner-up in the Toy Bowl and were coached by Kevin West.

- Congratulations to team members of Clyde St. Mary's School Challenge Bowl. The White Team won the annual Catholic Schools Challenge bowl. This was the sixth time that St. Mary's had won since 1982.

- Elizabeth Halm, Molly Halm, and David Halm all placed first in their age division of the annual "God, Flag and Country" oratory competition sponsored by the Clyde Eagles Club.

- Coach Dennis Albrinck and his 7th grade Lady Knights basketball team won the CYO regular season league and the tournament with a 15-1 overall record.

- May 1, 1996 - The Catholic Knights of Ohio announced that Monica Hay of St. Mary's School won first place in the Toledo Diocese for her essay on "Spiritual Things That Bring Happiness Into My Life."

- St. Mary's School celebrated its first Alumni Reunion Gathering. Father Peter Zafe (interim pastor) celebrated Mass with the alumni. A dinner followed the liturgy.

- Father Peter Zafe observed the anniversary of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi by blessing the children of St. Mary's School and their pets.

St. Mary's Verse choir comprised of 6th, 7th and 8th graders, won first place at the St. Patrick's of Heatherdowns speech contest.

- A new parents' organization was formed. PALS' (Parents Aiding Learning Students) purpose was to help improve student life and stimulate spiritual growth by working with parents, teachers, and students.

- 30 students received the Sacrament of Confirmation as Bishop Donnelly officiated a beautiful liturgy.

The 8th graders, parents, and some parishioners went on the first 8th grade trip to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. The overnight stay included a trip to a game at Tiger Stadium.

- St. Mary’s Seventh Graders coordinated the Caring for Clyde Kids holiday toy collection. The service project had been a school tradition for 13 years, with Seventh Graders taking charge the past eight years.

St. Mary’s students participated in a Math-A-Thon and collected more than $2,000 to help fund research at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The Eighth Grade went on a class trip to Chicago and visited Chinatown, the Lincoln Park Zoo, the Sears Tower, and many other interesting places.

- The ASK (After School Knights) program was begun to offer students assistance with homework from 3:00-4:00. St. Mary’s teachers assist and supervise the one-hour session. Enrichment courses are also included throughout the year.
